Osteopathy, Physiotherapy or Chiropractic?

Osteopaths, physiotherapists and chiropractors often treat similar types of conditions. So, if you are in Leytonstone with back pain or in Leyton with neck pain you have options when it comes to your treatment; the key is to find the right therapist for you.

Osteopathy take a ‘holistic’ approach, often treating related areas away from the site of injury. We also assess ongoing postural and mechanical problems people have and how these may be feeding into the problem. Factors such as lifestyle, job and exercise are considered and incorporated into the treatment plan.

Osteopathy treatments are typically 30 - 45 minutes and involve soft-tissue massage and joint articulation & manipulation.

Physiotherapists traditionally work with injuries and rehabilitation, mainly dealing with muscles and ligaments. Treatments combine ‘hands-on’ muscle manipulation work with the use of technical equipment (such as ultrasound), plus exercise prescription.

Chiropractors focus their treatment mostly on the spine. A chiropractor uses manipulation, or to use their terminology, 'chiropractic adjustment' as their main treatment modality. An appointment with a chiropractor is typically shorter than an osteopathy or physiotherapy appointment.

“Went to Shane at Leyton Osteopaths for long-standing issues around hip mobility, brought on by years of running and playing football, and not stretching properly. He listened carefully and explored various possible causes in the muscles around my hips, legs and back. He identified the problem areas, and then worked with them and gave me exercises for home. Hips felt great after the sessions which, along with the exercises, are improving my range of motion and helping me do squats properly for the first time ever. Highly recommended.”

Kevin McCullagh

“I took my Mum to Leyton Osteopaths after a particularly bad fall that resulted in weeks of neck pain. This was our first introduction to osteopathy, and I must say, using Leyton Osteopaths was the right choice. Shane provided such a gentle yet effective treatment which took into account her existing medical history and provided a very holistic treatment. Shane was very personable, able to put my Mum at ease and really helped her get relief from her neck pain. I highly recommend the service to anyone considering using a physical therapist, chiropractor or osteopath.”

Carol Johnson

“Shane at Leyton Osteopaths has been extremely helpful and has offered an immense amount of advice to help me improve my physical health. From daily stretches, to long term tips and guidance on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle when looking after my muscles and joints, Shane has used his expertise in order to create the best support plan for me according to my needs, revolving around practical strategies. I would highly recommend him and his practice to anyone who is looking for practical strategies and expert guidance on how to take care of their physical health.”

A Hanan

“I came to Shane after experiencing incredibly painful lower back spasms and after just two sessions and some gentle exercises he gave me, I feel 100 times better!”

Leoni Lessman

“Shane's calm and methodical approach to resolving my back pain was absolutely excellent. He quickly identified the underlying issue and tailored a plan to me and my lifestyle, which was straightforward and effective. The pain is now gone and I have the necessary knowledge and understanding to do what I can to keep it that way.”

James Warburton

“I was advised by my GP to visit an osteopath following a car accident. I have been impressed with the service I have been given by Shane. He is very professional and thorough and put me at ease from the start. I started to feel the benefits immediately after my first visit and I would highly recommend him.”
